If you live near a major beach, take advantage of trashed beach equipment you may find lined up with trash cans along the beach.
My family was in Maine (York area) recently, and I salvaged two beach umbrellas. I could have taken a few beach chairs as well, but there was no room for another beach chair (my dad already brought along two beach chairs, both from the pile of freebies at a town dump). The first umbrella's (really, an extra large umbrella) pole had been pulled out of the central hole in the dome. All I had to do was turn the umbrella over and kind of "hammer" down the pole with a fist into the hole. The second umbrella's plastic casing (where you secure or loosen the extension section) was badly cracked, but I feel I can fix it with a couple of those plastic string thingies that you see on a store package or on pipes and some duct tape.
After picking up these umbrellas, I got to thinking that anyone could pick up the broken beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. and fix them up, have a yard sale with this sign for an example:
Second Hand Beach Equipment
$2 A Piece
You could easily make $20 with ten pieces of beach equipment. Some people don't have a brain on how to fix simple problems, and there's no reason why you can't make money off these people ;) The best time to pick up broken beach equipment is in the evening, when people typically start going home. You could also pick up some towels and other items that people forget and leave behind (of course, wash those towels!).
I wasn't selling anything, just sharing a tip on what to do with the discarded beach equipment.

The mod probably didn't read the whole post, probably just saw the "for sale" part and deleted it.
